1) READ DASHIELL HAMMETT
Dashiell Hammett is the gold standard for pulp film noir. You need to focus on his double or false meanings in his dialogue. 2) Characterization - Your most important characters in Film Noir are your HERO ( who is stuck, downtrodden and almost uncaring) and the blonde bombshell with some skeletons in her closet.) 3) Dialogue! - I have already told you to read Dashiell Hammett. Just as important would be to watch Film Noir’s greatest movies such as;
Double Indemnity (1944)
The Big Sleep (1946)
Gilda (1946)
Out of the Past (1947)
The Reckless Moment (1949)
And one of my favorites . . . LAURA (1944)
Shelby Carpenter (Vincent Price) “I can afford a blemish on my character, but not on my clothes." #screenwriting #filmmaking
